HOW CAN YOU HELP?
Volunteers are the beating heart of FareShare Sussex and Surrey, they keep the project thriving. We are always looking for more enthusiastic people to join us in the fight against waste and food insecurity across Sussex and Surrey.
If you are interested in any of our roles below and are able to give at least 4 hours of your time each week, then please fill out an application form using this link. After that, you will be invited to an induction and tour of our warehouse.
We ask for a minimum of 3 months commitment. Please also be aware that the majority of the roles involve lifting.
On average, each hour you volunteer provides the equivalent of 112 meals to people across Sussex and Surrey from perfectly good food that would otherwise be thrown away.

Driver
Be at the forefront of stopping good food from going to waste with our low-carbon food distribution project. Along with a driving assistant, you’ll be the friendly face of FareShare Sussex and Surrey, interacting with the charities and projects, making sure they get the food they need. Shifts are typically in the morning and last an average of 5 hours. Drivers must be aged 25 or over with a full licence and willing to learn to drive one of our vans.
Warehouse Assistant
Come and help out in our Warehouse! This incredible team is the powerhouse of FareShare Sussex and Surrey, and ensures that the wonderful produce we receive is picked and packed ready for delivery the following day. There are often opportunities to head out on a van as a driving assistant.
Chef or Chef Assistant
If you enjoy getting creative in the kitchen whilst making a difference, then this might be the perfect role for you. Our team of dedicated chefs use the surplus food that can’t be sent out to projects to provide lunch for our team of volunteers. We have a lovely, well equipped kitchen and offer a Level 2 Food Safety certificate if you don’t already have one.
E- Cargo Bike rider
A role made for cycling enthusiasts and outdoor lovers. With our electric cargo bike, you will be the vital link between us and the charities, getting the food to where it’s needed across Brighton and Hove. There is an opportunity to trial the bike initially, and a shadow shift once the training is completed.
